Government meeting schedules – South Metro area

Note that the South Platte Group executive committee must authorize Sierra Club members to speak on behalf of the organization at any town or county meeting.  Specific members have been authorized in Littleton, Lone Tree, Castle Rock, Parker, and Centennial. A non member has been authorized to represent a coalition including us in Greenwood Village solely on the smoking ban.  If you want to represent the club in your community, contact the legislative committee oriez@rmc.sierraclub.org

 

Arapahoe County

 

5 commissioners representing districts are elected to four year terms.  Meets at the County Administration building (5334 S. Prince, Littleton) on Mondays and Tuesdays. Times vary.  Most meetings occur during the day.  The Planning and Zoning Commission meets the first and third Tuesday in the Arapahoe Room of the Development Services and Infrastructure Management building, 10730 E. Briarwood Ave.

 

Douglas County

3 commissioners representing districts but elected at large to four year terms.  Business meetings every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the hearing room of the Philip S. Miller Building (100 Third Street, Castle Rock).  Public hearings are generally the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the same place.  Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 PM. The County Open Space Advisory Committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at 6 PM. 

Elbert County

 

3 commissioners representing districts elected to four year terms. They meet at 9 AM every Wednesday.  Planning commission meets on the second and fourth Thursday at 7 PM.  All meetings at 215 Comanche Street, Kiowa.

 

Jefferson County

 

3 commissioners representing districts but elected at large to four year terms. Commissioners meet on Tuesday at 9 AM at the admin building.  Planning commission meets on most Wednesdays, varying between day and evening meetings also at the admin building.  Open Space advisory committee meets on the first Thursday in the OSAC offices.

RAQCC – meets first Thursday of each month at the Denver Chamber building, 1445 Market, 3 PM. Nine members appointed by the governor.

DRCOG – 52 members representing local governments in Denver metro area.  Meets on third Wednesday at its HQ building. 

 

Urban Flood Control District – members are appointed by governor representing metro cities and counties.  Generally meets on third Thursday at 2480 West 26th Ave., Suite 156-B.


RTD – study session first Tuesday of month, board meeting on third Tuesday of month. Meetings are downtown at the RTD HQ near the Market Street station.  Board members are elected at large non partisan to four year terms in even numbered years, November elections.  Sierra Club generally endorses candidates.

 

Metro Districts in general – elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May of even numbered years. In general boards are made up of an odd number of officials, with approximately half elected every two years to four year terms.

 

South Suburban Park & Recreation District – In general meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. The public meeting occurs at 7:30 PM.  Study sessions or executive sessions may sometimes precede the public meeting.  The public meeting will occur at Goodson Recreation Center (board room), 6315 South University Boulevard. Five commissioners.

 

Highlands Ranch Metro Districts - The Metro Districts of Highlands Ranch are the local government in Highlands Ranch. Elected board members represent five geographic districts in Highlands Ranch.  In general, one study session per month and one public meeting per month. Meeting days vary between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Exact dates are on their web site.  Water is provided by the Centennial Water and Sanitation District.

 

West Arapahoe Conservation District – Five board members elected to four year terms.  Public meetings of the West Arapahoe Conservation District Board of Supervisors are held on the THIRD Tuesday of each month at the Plains Conservation Center.

Cities

 

Bowmar – no web site

 

Castle Rock - Council meetings take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month (7 PM) at Town Hall.  Some local board or commission is meeting on any given evening. Check http://www.townofcastlerock.org/Calendar.asp for a complete schedule.

 

Centennial - In 2005, Centennial City Council will continue to meet on Monday evenings. Regular meetings will take place on the first and third Monday of each month, starting at 7 p.m. Council study sessions take place on the first three Mondays of the month at 6 p.m. Holidays that fall on Mondays will result in a rescheduling of that week’s Council meeting to Wednesday evening.

Englewood –  Englewood's City Council consists of seven members - one representative for each of the four districts in the City, and three who represent the City At-Large. The City Council Members are elected by the voters and serve four-year staggered terms. City Council decides which of its members will serve as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem

 

City Council meets the first and third Mondays of every month at Englewood Civic Center, located at 1000 Englewood Parkway in Englewood. Meetings begin at 7:30 PM. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend City Council meetings. If you would like to be scheduled to address Council at a City Council meeting, call the City Manager's Office at 303-762-2316 no later than the Wednesday prior to the meeting.  If you have a disability and need auxiliary aids or services, please notify the City of Englewood 303-762-2405 at least 48 hours in advance of when services are needed.

 

Franktown – no web site

 

Greenwood Village – four wards, two council members per ward. Mayor elected at large separately from council.  Council meets on first and third Mondays at 7 PM at 6060 South Quebec Street.  8 person planning commission meets on first and third Tuesdays at 7 PM.

 

Kiowa – no information available on their web site. 

 

Larkspur – no web site

 

Littleton – seven council members, with four representing districts and three elected at large.  Elections occur in November of odd numbered years.  Mayor (City Council President) is elected by vote of Council immediately after new council seated.  Mayor has single vote as council member, no veto.  District members elected to four year term. Two at large seats elected every two years, with top vote getter getting four year term and second place finisher getting two year term. Council meets first and third Tuesday of the month at 7 PM.   Planning commission meets on the second and fourth Mondays at 7 PM.

 

Lone Tree - Council meetings convene the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.  The Lone Tree City Council meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.  Meetings take place at the City of Lone Tree Civic Center, located at 8527 Lone Tree Parkway, Lone Tree, Colorado 80124.  Boards and Commissions include the City of Lone Tree Planning Commission, Arts Commission, Board of Adjustment, Board of Appeals, Transportation Committee, and Audit Committee. 

Parker – In summer 2005 Parker is updating its master plan. Full details are on their web site.  Commissions include Cultural Commission, Landmarks Commission, Planning Commission, and Special Licensing AuthorityTown Council meets first and third Mondays of every month in the evening.
