Executive Committee Member's Bios

Get to know your chapter's Executive Committee! The Executive Committee, or "ExCom," is the equivalent of an organization's Board of Directors. Since Sierra Club has a Board at the national level, we call chapter and group level Boards "Executive Committees." The Executive Committee is the governing entity of the chapter. You can contact any of the Executive Committee (ExCom) members via the chapter's About Us page

Alan Apt

Alan is the chapter Wilderness Chair, and is also on the Indian Peaks Group (Boulder County) of the Sierra Club. He is also on the Sustainability Advisory Board in Nederland.

Dave Bryan

Dave has been active in the Sierra Club for over 10 years. Originally from California, when it came time for Dave to commit to an environmental organization the Sierra Club was a natural fit. "The Sierra Club's ability to work within the political system to effect change is paramount to its effectiveness. If you are passionate about something, eventually you need to be politically engaged". Dave is an avid bike commuter, urban gardener and is active politically in El Paso County.

Shane Davis

Shane is a biologist, an avid outdoorsman, researcher and nature photographer. His interests are nearly everything natural and wild. His mission is to protect the environment and its inhabitants from increasing industrial development. He enjoys teaching children and connecting them to the wild. Currently, his main focus is on researching the environmental impacts of hydraulic fracturing and endangered species. He is also the Poudre Canyon Group Chairman and Conservation Chair.

Becky English

John is a retired attorney who practiced in New Mexico and Colorado during his career. At present, he substitute teaches in wood shop and metal shop at Poudre High and edits hiking guides for the Colorado Mountain Club. He believes that fracking is the single greatest present threat to public health and the environment in Colorado.

Kirby Hughes

Kirby loves working for the environment. He wants to better promote the Sierra Club and its coordination with other environmental non-government organizations (NGO’s). He intends to dedicate more and more of his life to working for the environment.

Jenny Kedward

Jenny is a nature-lover that enjoys organizing and working with such wonderful activists. She has a biology degree and currently works in environmental education in Pueblo, Colorado.

Betsy Kelson

As Secretary of the Rocky Mountain Chapter Executive Committee, Betsy enjoys hearing and writing about issues facing Colorado’s environment. She loves being outdoors, especially hiking, and for her day job, she helps folks with their yards and gardens.

Suzanna Koeller

As a member of the Sierra Club since 2001, Suzanna has filled the roles of secretary, vice chair, and chair for the South Platte Group and was elected chapter at-large Excom member two years ago. Over the years, she has participated in a number of chapter activities including fundraising and mailing parties. Additionally, she has attended a number of national Sierra Club workshops and trainings on political issues and grassroots activism. Her goals are to promote stewardship through education, conservation, and preservation so that we can live in harmony with our planet and leave the wild places for future generations.

Rich Levy

I have been a member of the Trappers Lake Executive Committee for 5+ years. I am the group's delegate to the state Sierra Club. Representing our concerns in these quarterly meetings brings additional income into the group's treasury. I have worked to initiate our Solar School project (placing solar panels and interpretive materials at 6 area schools). I look forward to creating new opportunities for our community, increasing our community presence and influence, participating in more statewide and nationwide environmental campaigns.

Ten years on the State Water Quality Control Commission, 6 years as an elected official in Greenwood Village, 6 years with the South Platte Commission, 12 years as a national board member of Clean Water Action. Masters degree in community organization. Also a member of the chapter Political Committee, Legislative Committee.

In 2004 the group started relocating Prairie Dogs from areas of development to local desert ecosystems for which he has received the "Grass Roots Leader" award, and the group received the "Special Achievement" award from the RMC. He is presently chair of the non-profit "Desert Ecosystem Analysis and Restoration". Gardening and part time teaching at Colorado Mesa University are two of his other life activities.

Will Walters

By trade, I am self-employed as a software development consultant. I juggle that with my 2 main passions: Playing Daddy in our family sitcom (Seven is Enough), and moonlighting as Sierra Club activist. I feel most at home away on a backpacking, canoeing or travel adventure with a wife I adore or any/all of our tribe. More often, I read, run, garden, drum, bake, bike, read to my kids, shoot pool with friends, follow my alma mater in college sports, write, fancy myself a Survivor contestant, invent new schemes to get kids to do their chores, and ponder the noxious state of American politics.

Rick Warren

Rick has been an active Sierra Club member since 1993. He has been retired since end of 2000 and spents his time volunteering. He is a Friends of the Eagle Nest Wilderness Ranger Volunteer, maintains multiple Summit County non-profit website plus he is RMC Webmaster and Chair of the Blue River Group.
