Mobilizing for the New Millennium: The National Gay and Lesbian Sierran Gathering

Mobilizing for the New Millennium, the first national Gay and Lesbian Sierran gathering will be held over Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 26 through Monday May 29, 2000 at the Estes YMCA Conference Center. The Estes YMCA (altitude 8,000+ feet) is located immediately adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado.

Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the jewels of our National Park system. Glaciated peaks, some over 14,000 feet high, pierce bright skies. Deer, elk, mountain sheep and bear are among the larger inhabitants of the park. Crystalline streams flow through dense jade pine and aspen forests. To help participants enjoy, understand, and appreciate the wilderness, trained naturalist guides will lead small groups through the Park. Among the interpretive hikes and activities provided will be:

Those interested in skills building/sharing workshops may chose from:

Moderately priced, comfortable lodging is available at the conference site. Group camping is available in Rocky Mountain National Park. (The group campground is a forty-five minute hike or ten-minute drive from the conference site.) A limited number of need-based scholarships will be offered that cover registration fees for those who commit to the activist training/skill sharing seminars.

The Gay and Lesbian Section of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club will host this gathering. To ensure that no Y2K problems interfere with registration, online registration for the conference will commence on January 2, 2000. Join us and make this event one of great times, excitement, wonder and community.
