The Denver Inner City Outings (ICO) was saddened late last month by the sudden death of one of its leaders, Larry Ibison, at the age of 57.
Larry volunteered as an outing leader for several years with Whittier Elementary School, Garden Place Elementary School and with Denver Housing Authority sites. His dog Fritz, a big, fluffy, long-haired German shepherd, was his constant hiking companion on these excursions, as well, something the kids always looked forward to.
Larry took a two year hiatus from the program but he was ready and excited to become reinvolved this fall, a mark of his commitment to the program. We had discussed his return to Whittier, and he had already begun to line up his assistant leaders.
We will miss Larry’s caring energy, his youth-centered enthusiasm and his calm analytical advice at our monthly ICO meetings. Our thoughts are with his ex-wife and four sons.
A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the local ICO by several of Larry’s college friends. Donations to this fund can be made to Sierra Club Foundation/Rocky Mountain ICO and mailed to the Denver Sierra Club office at 1410 Grant Street—Suite B-205; Denver, CO 80203.
